Rock Work
Garden Beds
Nothing quite like rock will provide a timeless beautiful border like split or fractured rock for building a garden bed. The variations in color, size and shape are endless. As are the mosses and creeping foliage which will cover rock over the decades.
Slope Retention
Flat-sided large rock can create stunning, almost vertical, large retaining walls. Large fractured blue or green basalt makes great rock slopes which will hold down a bank of dirt forever. Heavy rock slope retention is an excellent way to terrace a yard.
Design Features
A mossy massive boulder placed amongst a beautiful flower garden can be as eye-catching as the brightest most bold flowering shrub. Rocks can be laid out to resemble dry creek beds, a common feature of many a yard nowadays. Rock will always have a solid place in landscape design.
Wooden Structures
Pergolas / Trellises / Arbors
Stained wooden structures can really define functional space. Guests will be drawn to wood features where chairs are often found strewn about, ready to seat viewers for the garden or pond views. Yellow or Red Cedar are both excellent choices for your hardscape construction project.
Stair Systems
Commonly used as stairs off of deck space, wood stairs are also excellent for building into landscape slopes. With proper installation, mostly working to keep wet dirt from contacting wood, your stairs will last decades. Yellow Cedar is the wood most suited to build landscape stair sets on ground level.
Fences
The best way to define your perimeter space is with a fence. A well built fence should last many years without leaning or rotting. A wooden fence is a great place to incorporate pergola structure or a beautiful entry gate. Fences can be quite a stunning addition to your yard when using stained or painted wood.
Excavating
Foundations
The best way to ensure a house starts out smoothly is to start with a level footing. That task is much easier for the construction crew when the excavated base is smooth and level to begin with. Foundation excavation work can be challenging on Vancouver Island due to slope and rock, but maybe we’re crazy…it’s always a satisfying task!
Driveways & Walkways
A well built road requires the use of fractured rocks, layered in stages with the biggest jagged rock used as a base. Working up to the top surface and using a good chipped gravel with fines creates a nice long lasting driveway surface. Of course there are block pavers, bricks, porcelain pavers, cement etc. Many options!

Landscape is what makes your yard lush, fruitful or bountiful, colorful, private etc.
DESIGN
All projects come together best when an install is completed from a well thought out design.
