Matt Tufts, owner of Rusty Shovel lives and enjoys the beauty of Vancouver Island daily. I have always had a passion for the entire design and build process. I feel strongly that for a project to end well, each step of the process must be thought out thoroughly, laid out well, and built using time-tested methods. This means that customer consultation and design input are crucial to achieving a goal all are excited about and proud of! The design process can often take months of back and forth communication to get a design that meets the mark. Budget and desire must be weighed out and balanced to achieve beautiful results.

I do our in-house landscape and hardscape design work and project installation management. I really enjoy the initial design process of the project and seeing installation through to hand-shake completion. In the past I've done home design, so the more creative design process of landscape/hardscape drawing is quite enjoyable. Definitely more alive you could say! I've also worked in varied construction and equipment operation businesses.
